The Forum has come to an end with the closing of the Hitachi lead of the project, and the site hand over to eThekwini. In the event we become aware of any updates or changes to the site will inform stakeholders.

The Hitachi / eThekwini Remix Desalination Pilot Project was the first of its kind in South Africa, located at the eThekwini Central Waste Water Treatment Works. The Community Environment Forum was established as a requirement of the Environmental Authorisation for the Remix Desalination Pilot Project. The CEF provided a platform for the project stakeholders (community, community environmental organisations, fisher folk, authorities, and industry) to engage on issues arising from the construction. The CEF recieved regular reports from the Environmental Control Officer, and the specialists who provided monitoring on the project. The reporting ensured that any adverse impacts and pollution to the receiving environment were avoided and/or minimized within acceptable timeframes to acceptable standards; and that there was learning in a full and transparent manner.
