The Hitachi / eThekwini Remix Desalination Pilot Project is the first of its kind in South Africa, located at the eThekwini Central Waste Water Treatment Works. The Community Environment Forum was established as a requirement of the Environmental Authorisation for the Remix Desalination Pilot Project. The CEF provides a platform for the project stakeholders (community, community environmental organisations, fisher folk, authorities, and industry) to engage on issues arising from the construction. The CEF recieves regular reports from the Environmental Control Officer, and the specialists who provide monitoring on the project. The reporting ensures that any adverse impacts and pollution to the receiving environment are avoided and/or minimized within acceptable timeframes to acceptable standards; and that there will be learning in a full transparent manner.
