Purpose for Training:
To understand the functions, safety and suitability of the crane prior to utilization in the freight handling industry. Be able to inspect and record the operational fitness of the components of a crane and to access available support systems and emergency services in case of incidents and accidents.
Summary of outcomes:
Demonstrate knowledge of the functions of a crane and identify the safety and suitability of the crane. Inspect and record the operational fitness of the components of a crane. Operate an overhead crane in a safe and competent manner, access available support systems and emergency services in case of incidents and accidents.
Summary of assessment criteria:
- The main functions of Overhead Crane’s and all major components is explained
- The suitability of the crane according to load characteristics, equipment manufacturer’s requirements and environmental conditions.
- Daily and weekly operator maintenance performed according to the appropriate post-operational checklist and recorded using a logbook
- Crane performance is monitored and corrective action is taken when necessary
Facilitators will guide learners through the training to understand why and where you need to use the skill (theory). He/she will provide demonstrations and opportunities for the learner to practice the skill (practical). In some cases this will be done “on the job” under the supervision of your trainer or supervisor in the company
